One Community Bootcamp

29/07/2026

On 25–26 July, Blackwater Training delivered its One Community Bootcamp, bringing together members of the Swazi community in Ireland for two days of learning, discussion and community empowerment.

The bootcamp was developed to strengthen participation, build confidence and provide practical knowledge that helps migrants and minority ethnic communities navigate life in Ireland while becoming active members of their local communities.

Building Stronger Communities

Throughout the weekend, participants explored a range of topics designed to support inclusion, participation and long-term integration.

Workshops covered:

  • Understanding racism, discrimination and equality legislation
  • How to report racist incidents and access support
  • Civic participation and understanding Ireland's political system
  • Employment, housing and accessing public services
  • Financial wellbeing and planning for the future
  • Community leadership, resilience and active citizenship

Rather than traditional presentations, the programme encouraged open discussion, shared experiences and practical learning, allowing participants to ask questions and connect with organisations supporting migrant communities across Ireland.

Learning from Experts

The bootcamp featured contributions from a range of organisations and community leaders working in anti-racism, migrant integration and community development.

Blackwater Training was delighted to welcome representatives from Cultúr Migrant Centre, the Irish Network Against Racism (INAR), the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) and Africa Solidarity Centre Ireland, alongside speakers focusing on financial wellbeing, community leadership and cultural identity.

Their expertise provided participants with practical information while highlighting the importance of working together to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

Accessing Services

At Blackwater Training, we believe that successful integration is about more than accessing services. It is about creating opportunities for people to participate, contribute and lead within their communities.

The One Community Bootcamp was designed to help participants better understand their rights, build confidence in engaging with public services and democratic processes, and strengthen the connections that create thriving communities.

Just as importantly, the weekend celebrated the rich culture, traditions and resilience of the Swazi community, recognising that cultural identity and community participation go hand in hand.

Looking Ahead

The One Community Bootcamp forms part of Blackwater Training's wider commitment to promoting inclusion, participation and community development across Ireland.

By bringing together communities, organisations and local leaders, we continue to create spaces where people can learn from one another, build lasting connections and develop the confidence to participate fully in Irish society.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us over the two days and contributed to making the event such a success. We look forward to delivering future One Community Bootcamps and continuing to build stronger, more connected communities together.
